Didn't do it "by the book", barely warm engine, more to see if I had any
glaring "oops" and to see how much difference there was.
Supposedly 80k miles, but might have had speedo changed, if nothing else
has been seriously neglected, so - -
Forgot to block the throttle body open, but here are the results
3 cylinders all real close to 150, one at 130.
Just installed a vacuum gauge, idles at 17 ( should be OK ), but only pulls
about 8 to 9 down the road at 65 or so (5 speed, 3.45 gears, standard
size tires).
Vacuum is real close to steady at all speeds and conditions, just seems
a little low.
From an idle with a warm engine, goosing it and letting right off again
it drops to 0 and only goes up to about 22 when I let off. Shouldn';t
it be a little more then 22?
Doesn't use any oil, runs smooth at low engine rpms in lower gears and responds reasonably well to throttle but has an irregular hiccup at road speeds esp in 4th & 5th and seems to struggle some in esp 5th going up
any sort of grade. At road speed up any grade at all, vacuum is pretty much near zero to 4. Maybe becuz I have to keep my foot in it? Going flat or downhill at 60+ in 5th vac still is only around 10. Shouldn't it be a little more than that? Vacuum is taken right off that "tree" on the intake.
The brakes are a little bit soft, seepage out between the master cyl and
vac booster. Wonder if the vac booster can be leaking vacuum?
Coils & plug wires ohm'd out fine Plugs look exactly alike and no bad symptoms after about 3000 miles.
Oil doesn't get dirty any faster than it should.
Looks like the plenum on the intake pretty much has to come off to
ohm the injectors. Was going to "sound" them with a stethescope,
but I can't even SEE # 4!
Fuel pressure is right at the low end of acceptable at 30 (new filter),
but doesn't leak down beyond acceptable limits when shut off.
Thinking more and more just to replace injectors.
New to these 2.3's, appreciate any experienced tips!
