can someone tell me what that sleeve is that came loose on my 98 2wd ranger manual trans , its rolling around between my front ujoint and transmission tailend like a tin can. Is it some kinda balancer? Anyone?

Part of a vibration dampner assembly. Remove the shaft and take it off, you won't notice and adverse effect from this.
