What 2.3,s will bolt in my 88 ranger? Thanks in advance.

hell, 2.3s,2.0s and even 2.5s from 1974 to 2001 will bolt in. if you want a direct engine swap, late 85 to 88 will be your best bet, they went to a dual plug head with smaller main journals in 89, you could swap your head and install a dizzy on a 2.3 up till 94-95 i think. all lima engines share the same bolt pattern.

Rad hose broke on ours and the wife drove it until it would not run anymore. It will start but has a dead cylinder.I am going to pull the head. Hoping for just a head gasket.
But if it needs a head. I might just change the engine. Thanks for the reply.

if your head is good, then that opens up your options on short blocks.

Thanks for your reply. I got the head off and it is cracked. It might be a good time for a 5.0 swap??? I have one in my shop.

if you feel like your up to the task then go get em tiger! dont forget a build thread!

The only thing stopping me is.............two other projects already.I am getting the sbc going in my 56 ford car hopefully soon.I also have my 54 f100 to get running.
But putting the 5.0 in the ranger would be quicker (no wiring etc.)

.................I plan on at least getting the 56 running first. And thanks again for your reply.

OMG i hope i didnt see a fellow Ford owner admit to committing the travesty of putting a small block chevy in a classic Ford..... I dont want to offend, but that is down right wrong.

yea, i dont got problem with the sbc itself, but if your gona restore a car, keep it in the family, unless its a rat rod. the thing i hate the most about the SBC is i see too many of them, no creativity..

and.............my daily driver ( my drive to work and back is 116 miles five days a week) is my 95 mustang.
It is a 95 v6 auto that I bought for 400$ with a blown head gasket.
Now it has..............8.8 trak loc with 3.73,s , 5.0 with t5, trick flow stage one cam, gt40p heads, summit headers and exhaust, edelbrock dual plane intake,670 holley street avenger carb, hurst shifter, pro comp hei.

Still shouldnt have a SBC in that car, really a few hundred will get you a 351 as well. Why not do the right thing ;)

I like the small block chevy, honestly i would love to take a 400 block, and put a forged crank for like a 283 or 327 in it to de stroke it, go light weight and strong and get a good cam to turn 10K rpm out of it. But i would never drop it in a ford...............
