what years of explorer's closesly matches the 93+ body lines

THINKING about converting std cab to a crew cab,thinking of trying explorer rear doors
 
You're looking at 2nd gen explorers. 96-2000 (maybe 01?)

The bodies changed ever so slightly in 99 so you might want to just do 96-98.. That's what I'd do. Plus they're easier to come by.

There's a guy on explorerforum.com that has 20 or so 2nd gen explorers that he parts out... Parts are cheap, I've bought from him before.
 
the ranger and explorer use a different profile on the door,so none will really match.another issue would be that the ex rear door has the wheel arch intruding into it.you may be able to make something decent using the front edge and window assembly from the ex,and the lower skin and rear frame section from a ranger door.

it's a bit of work...but a project like that will entail some work anyway.

seems like it would be easier to buy the cab from a mexican ranger out of a mexican junkyard and bring it back on a flatbed, cut the back half of the mexican cab off and weld it to your murikan front half of the cab.

while probably not a bad plan for someone in so-cal,that's a bit of a drive from washington.

how do the body lines compare on the mexi-rangers?i don't remember how those ones look.

Wouldn't it just be easier to swap the cab altogether rather than go through the trouble of welding and fabbing it together?

There's some misinformation there. Lets see if we can fix that up.

2nd Gen Explorers are 95-01 for the 4 door and 95-03 on the sport.

1st Gens (91-94) Have almost the exact same doors as GenIIs. Wiring, connectors, and door panels being the only difference on the front. 2nd gens have a much better window regulator setup on the back windows.

The second gen body did change slightly, It was only the hatch, tail lights, "privacy glass" (went from mirror to black), and a few different bumpers. 95-97 and 98+ was the split.


For what you want to do, you can get any 1st or 2nd Gen, It just comes down to "what front end do you like better?"
