what years of explorer's closesly matches the 93+ body lines

Did 2nd gen start in 95? My bad.. I didn't include Sport because he would have no use for them without back doors.

2nd gen Sports stopped in 2000

1998 Explorers still had the same front bumper, at least, as the 95-97

except the part where it's illegal, sure.

while i realise that laws on this sort of thing differ from place to place,i also know that in my area they are more strict than most, and if the paperwork is done properly there is no problem with this type of swap.

the history of the swapped on cab would have to be documented(serial number, place of origin, etc)and after the swap an inspection at a government facility would be done....then the government would issue a new serial number for the vehicle, classifying it as a 'salvage' or 'homebuilt' for the registration.

many states it's a free-for-all,some are similar to our system here.

to just swap the cab on and keep the old vin tags is,most certainly, illegal.

I really have no idea what's legal or illegal regarding all of that. Never heard of any issues about that around here.. Hell, according to the state, my truck is a 4cyl 2wd.. lol

I just threw the sport in there in case anyone came across this in a search and needed the info. (The 01+ sports were still considered a 2nd gen for the most part, just a little update on the body. Everyone goes by the 4 door as far as generation classification.)

98 explorers had a different rear bumper, no place or lights for the plate. The plate was moved to the hatch. The front didnt change until 99+. I like the 99+ front bumper better, thats why I have one on my 95 Ex.

i meant it was illegal because that cab is under a specific age and can't pass american safety standards, they won't let you bring those trucks complete into the country, they sure won't let you build your own with one, cutting the back half off the cab might not even work but at the same time you don't have to tell them where the metal came from.

Not every state is the same regarding registering foreign vehicles. But I believe in the us it has to be 20 years or more older. I know of a guy who drives a late 80's French Citreon 2CV that is perfectly legal. You just have to know how to work the system. I don't but some people do.

Just grab an 01-05 sport trac cab

Just mount the Expolder Sport Trac body to the Ranger body. I saw one at a car/swap meet last year at Daytona. The guy did a good job of it. He loves to weld he said!! He had cut down the Ranger's bed by about 2 feet and he got the Sport Trac body to mount on the Ranger's frame. He said it was a 2003 Ranger frame (his truck). I should have got some photos but so many cars and truck to see. When we came back later to get some photos a lot of the vehicals were out doing a parade around Daytona....I just hate that Spot Trac....hack up hairballs looking at one!!! But a lot of people like theirs.
