Wanting to put a carbed 5.0 in my Mazda. Mazda has a 4.0 and 5 speed. Auto/manual dont matter. Which ever is the least complicated tto swap. If auto its gotta be a floor shift. Kinda looking at take t-case tranny and engine from same truck.

Family has a junkyard ill get the complete rig from.

What should I look for?

IMO there isn't a best onestop shop for everything. At least not when looking for carbed 5.0L 4x4. Personal opinion is that none of the truck 5.0Ls are a tight enough package. Yes they can be made to fit, but the Mustang and Explorer accessory packages are a much better fit. Any EFI 5.0L (well not the new mod 5.0s) can be made into a carb fairly easily from my understanding. The issue with the Mustangs and Explorers is the 4x4 and auto, obviously mustangs don't have 4x4, and the AWD Explorer's auto is computer controlled. With that in mind you'd have to source an older, non electronic, auto or a manual from a truck with 302 and 4x4, fortunately they all have the same bolt pattern.

I know it wasn't the answer you were looking for, but if I had family with a junkyard it is what I'd do. I'm an EFI guy though so I'd stick with the fuel injection. I'd go for an Explorer 5.0L (most compact and lowest miles) converted to standalone Mustang EFI, and an older F-150 manual transmission with manual transfer case.

Good luck finding one vehicle to pull a carbed 5.0 with a 4x4 auto trans and a floor shifter.

Almost everything 5.0 4x4 would have had a column shift, unless it was a stick.

Best bet would be 5.0 manual 4x4 if you want floor shift.

Wanted floor shift cuz Idk how to setup the column shift. The junkyard is a small one. So I figured it would be easier to find a carbed 5.0. I too am a fuel injection guy. But have yet to see a explorer 5.0 in there. Lots of old fords that get crushed tho.

If I buy a explorer 5.0 it'll bolt up to any years 5.0 manual tranny? Or which manual would be my best bet to source?

Also I didn't really wanna deal with the fuel injection wiring and such. Swapping in a Carb would be much simpler. I was going to do a 2-3 inch bl to accomadate for engine size. Only thing I was really worried about was exhaust hitting the frame.

Doing a carb will be harder and more wiring involved, not to mention more expensive. For carb, you will need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator that will adjust down to 5 psi. You will also either have to buy an intake and carb, or rebuild the motor if you get a carb motor. You will have to rewire the fuel pump relay since the ECU controls it, you will need to get fittings to adapt the efi fuel lines to the afpr, then the tranny, you will need to use a mechanical auto trans or go manual.
With using the explorer setup, all wiring goes through one plug, there will be only 5 wires to hook up (add 1 wire for each water temp and oil pressure sensor if you want to use the stock gauges, 3 more wires if you want the diagnostic port, which I recommend) and a dual sump oil pan/pickup tube. I can even help you out by making the wiring harness modifications for you to make it a true plug n play swap...

Wow thought the wiring would be harder than that. Guess ill hold out for an explorer. Thanks a ton guys!

You might check out the B&M Unimatic floorshifter. It looks nice, works nice and fits a ton of different automatics. It isn't terribly expensive either.

I have one on my C5, pretty sure it fits an AOD as well.
