I was at the dealer yesterday looking for a key.

Stumbled across this truck. Here are the specs.
2003 F-350 Super Duty
6.0L Power Stroke w/ Torkshift Automatic
4x4 with manual shift transfer case and hubs
Lariat Package. Heated and leather everything, 6 disc CD, moonroof.
Never had a bedliner or hitch in the bed, never had a brake controller mounted.

I drove it a good 10 miles both on the freeway and sideroads and it was flawless. Not used to a SD being able to pick up speed so fast.. I am used to my gasser.

Negatives are it has 140K, and they want 22,900, but I worked them down, so far to 20,900.

Should I walk away?

i can see why you want a diesel over a 5.4(mileage) but 4years old and 140k for 20k$?isen't there a way to find average resale like on autotrader or somewhere?

I did a KBB value on it, and average resale even with the high mileage is $26,600

That seems like a LOT to pay for such high mileage. I know these diesels last a long time, but still.

I am undecided..

I need it for the crew cab. I hate the extended cab, plus the heated leather and moonroof is nice too.

it is a diesel. that is not even broke in yet i have seen a sd around here and the owner puts 100 k on a year trades every3 or 3 1/2 years . if the truck has been taken care of you should have no serious problems

I am a Ford tech and know a thing or two about these trucks. Walk away from it. The 03 and 04 6.0L are JUNK. They are technically orphan engines. The injectors are different between 03,04 and 05. If you really want a SD, find a 05 and newer.

Walk away.

as a dealer diesel Tech. WALK AWAY, wait. RUN :) that is not a good year for the sick-oh's I mean 6.0's

I always heard this same thing as I am being told, however, I ran a carfax report and it has had the same owner since the date of manufacture, which leads me to believe it was probably well taken care of.

I am in the process of getting an OASIS report. What should I be looking for to have already been done?

Injectors, EGR cooler, head gaskets, engine wire harness, turbo work. Numerous recalls. I'll bet that the OASIS will show most if not all those being addressed. The worst part is that even if it has been done, it'll need them done again. Trust us, these engines are JUNK.

Find a 05 or newer. Much better quality.

Also much higher priced. I am not trying to spend a fortune, but I don't want to buy a debt riddled vehicle. I am trying to buy a house and get married, but I don't think child seats will fit in a extended cab SD. Trying to plan ahead. I just put 2K in my current SD.

Oh well, I will keep on lookin.

As I said before, the 03 and 04 engines are orphans. The have many parts-- like the injectors- that are unique to it's year. They do not interchange among themselves or with anything else. That makes them more expensive to repair.

this isn't a fact but my source is a technician that works for CAT, he says that in 2010 the amount of sulfur in diesel is going to be further reduced by a large percentage and the only engines that can properly run on the 2010 diesel are the cummins and cat engines and ford and chevy are going to have lots of problems. so in my opinion dont do it, but like i said its not a fact.

I know the big 3 just redesigned their engines to be legal. I can't imagine, even with new laws that they are going to ban all older vehicles from running. That is just rediculas. They can't expect everyone to afford a new 2010 Diesel Pickup.

If I were you, I'd try to find the 7.3L or the 6.4L, imho.

I myself never understood why anyone except businesses bought super duties. A ranger will tow a hell of lot more than most people think. It's also much easier to park and uses far less gas, insurance, maintenance, etc... Not to mention that you can buy one for 1000 bucks that'll last you another 10 years and 200,000 miles.

My brother and his girlfriend both drive PSD's. I get a real kick out of it. I call them the "dump truck couple".

Obviously some people do have a real use for such trucks, but not nearly as many as own them. To each his own I guess. Good luck with your search.

just be care ful with the 6.0 i love them but there where some that had bad problems make shere the oil is clean and has no evadice of leaks.

look for things like are the vale cover bolts in the right spot and all the same hard where it not a problem if it has had work done but there are a lot of tecs out there that hacked up the 6.0 because they did like them.

i would look for a factorie air filter the aftermarket for the 6.0 where crap and same with oil filters. the aftermarket oil filters would brake apart and trash the hight presher oil pump. 03 will get better MPG then the newer one because of the injectors. the newer one dump more fuel but make more power but at the cost of mpg.

if you what to get more out of them gut the cat and get a map out of a 03 7.3 will give 2-6 more pounds of boost.
