What would you pay for this truck?

Injectors, EGR cooler, head gaskets, engine wire harness, turbo work. Numerous recalls. I'll bet that the OASIS will show most if not all those being addressed. The worst part is that even if it has been done, it'll need them done again. Trust us, these engines are JUNK.

Find a 05 or newer. Much better quality.

in some cases yes but i have never had a oil pump explode on me when drive down the hyway on me in an o3 i have had that 3 times on an 04,05 and 06 .

the 03 i had i sold in 05 with 200k on it i drove 100+ mile a day

the truck i had a 7.3 map no cat and a supperchip programer in it and man was that mean truck and got 20-25mpg on the hiway.

I am a Ford tech and know a thing or two about these trucks. Walk away from it. The 03 and 04 6.0L are JUNK. They are technically orphan engines. The injectors are different between 03,04 and 05. If you really want a SD, find a 05 and newer.

Walk away.

x2 or 3, whatever we are up to, they were rushed into production a year or two early before the bugs were worked out. It is a serious headache for the techs when the come in for a problem because of the extensive list of TSB's they have to go thru to get them current before even troubleshooting them.

I myself never understood why anyone except businesses bought super duties. A ranger will tow a hell of lot more than most people think. It's also much easier to park and uses far less gas, insurance, maintenance, etc... Not to mention that you can buy one for 1000 bucks that'll last you another 10 years and 200,000 miles.

My brother and his girlfriend both drive PSD's. I get a real kick out of it. I call them the "dump truck couple".

Obviously some people do have a real use for such trucks, but not nearly as many as own them. To each his own I guess. Good luck with your search.

I like the room and being able to tow more than just my dirt bike, hence why although I thought about getting a Ranger I didn't. I am happy I spent the extra 2k and got a truck I can do something with, while getting about the same milage. I would happily get a SD diesel next, but there is a pretty steep price jump between a F-150 and a F-250+ diesel.

the 2010 fuel will be backwards compatible (and if it is not then use a b-10 bio blend, or dump 3.5 gallons of vegtable oil in your 35 gallon tank when you fill up). Ford and Navistar are in litigation right now and it looks like ford will be producing their own Diesel engines for 2010 (and it will be a wet sleave) for F-150 (rumor, but it was in fleet owner magazine and something was mentioned in Diesel power as well) through the F-550 and will offer the C-7 and C-9 cat for the F-650. I would wait for 2010 or wait a year and buy a 6.7L cummins because it meets the 2010 epa requirements right now.

if you need (or want one now) and price is an issue then look for a 98-2002 7.3L. For less than what a 6.0L truck costs you can buy a 7.3L truck and tune it beyond the 6.0L's numbers and get better mileage.

I would really like to have the TorqShift, but I guess the 4R100 will hold up a few thousand miles anyhow. That is what I have now in my SD.

I will probably hold off for now. It was just a "fell in love" deal.

Ew, it's a 6.0L Diesel. :bad:

I'm tellin' ya, buy the only truck with a real Diesel Engine.

If you are referring to a Dodge, I don't mind them as long as the new trannies will hold up.

The 7.3 is a completely different beast. By far Ford's best diesel engine to date.

I got the OASIS report and it said nothing of any of the things mentioned here. Had a couple reflashes, a couple surging idle issues, one problem with the door not shutting right, one problem with warped rotors, etc.

I found another one today, nicer, with lower miles, 2002 model with the 7.3L.

But then I decided that I went to the dealer for a truck key, not a truck, and the one I have is plenty fine.

So I scratched the idea until I can afford the one I want.

I had i 6.0 but put the 7.3 map in for more boost gives about 2-6 pounds more.

and i like working on the 6.0 more then the 7.3 and would still be doing it but my tools got stolne for the dealship and i disided to take the mony and go to work for a cran servce that suplid the tools

Stay away from the 6.no! If you HAVE to have a PSD, get a 7.3. Otherwise get a Cummins (I prefer the p-pump 12 valves myself...).

Also much higher priced. I am not trying to spend a fortune, but I don't want to buy a debt riddled vehicle. I am trying to buy a house and get married, but I don't think child seats will fit in a extended cab SD. Trying to plan ahead. I just put 2K in my current SD.

Oh well, I will keep on lookin.

If you're trying to save money, you need to get a MUCH OLDER vehicle. I've never spent close to $20K on any vehicle, and if I can help it, I never will. I bought my Exploder (which fits child seats JUST fine) for barely 1/10 of that. And still gets about 20 MPG with 230K miles.

A $2000 diesel truck won't be much, the 5.4 he has now would probably laugh at it. A good mid 90's turboed one is a little under $10k in my area, $2k might get you a beat to heck 6.9 farm truck.
