Ok so I have a couple problems. Problem #1

The seal in the 3rd brake light is no good. I was going through the car wash and water was dripping on the floor.
Problem #2

My roll bar is too close to the light so I can't take it off so here's my options
1. Loosen the roll bar, or take it off, and get a new seal. Roll bar is a pain to get off by the way. I used nylon thread bolts and the bolts are like 2 inches long so its a 2 person job.
2. Get a new seal, cut a little slit in it so it can go through the wires and put it back together. I'm worried that some water may get through still. Maybe I could glue the slit?
3. Use silicon around the light and put it back together.
What would you guys do? Or if you have any other ideas I'm happy to hear them.

Is the roll bar just bolted to the bed or through your frame?? you could pull out your bed bolts enough to slide the whole bed back a couple inches?

It just goes through the bed but I have bed liner that its held down by the roll bar so therefore I can't get to the bed bolts.

If the rollbar is holding down the bedliner... why not just remove the rollbar (which is all you have to remove in the first place)

Somebody somehow stacked those three parts together and I highly doubt the bed was the last piece to go on (making it the first to come off)

I'd tighten it back down and silicone it...nobody can see it too well and only you will know...

And I'd stop going through car washes...my Sidekick leaked after a few tries at that so the dirt piled up on it...but then the body rusted out after a few years of not washing it regularly...

I used clear silicone on my light. It sealed it up perfectly and had no more leaks.....Then one day I noticed it wasn't lighting up (I thought it was a burnt bulb) and it was a PITA to remove. Turns out the bulb was still good, but those stupid 921 bulbs wiggle around in the connector so much they make intermittent contact. I ditched the whole assembly and installed an LED brake light assembly from Putco. No more leaks (even without silicone), the thing actually lights up when it's supposed to, the bulbs will last basically forever, and I now have cargo lights, which I didn't have before.

I'm kinda confused on what your saying. I cut some slots in the bed liner for the roll bar. And I never took the bed off?

I think I'm gunna silicon it. And I usually don't go through car washes but it's been muddy for a long time and it was too cold to hand wash it so I just went to the car wash.

That's good to know. I wasn't sure if the silicon would hold. It would be pointless for me to get an LED one since you cant even see it.

Thanks for you help guys! :icon_thumby:

Ok my suggestion for the bed bolts was to slide the whole bed back,,, but since the OP states he has the plastic bed liner that idea was scrapped.

Oh ya I should've mentioned I have the plastic bed liner. Sorry. Thanks for the idea though! I wouldn't have thought of that.

I can but

I was just looking for ideas to avoid doing this.

Ok, I didn't get why you were going to take your bed off rather than the rollbar.

BTW whatever you put on the rollbar bolts, it would be easier to remove them than the bed bolts. :icon_thumby:

Glad were on the same page now haha. Ya I really hope I don't ever have to take my bed off, that's gunna be quite a project with all them rusty bolts.
