Hey guys, kinda been busy so i havnt had time to log on....
To awnser your question, might as well go with a 3" both my 88BII and my 86 Ranger have bodylifts. The Bronco II has a 2", It would hold 31" tires without it but they would rub when stump jumping.. With a 2" bodylift you can get away with not lifting bumpers and it will still look ok.
When I did my Ranger I asked myself what lift i wanted a 2" or 3" body, I felt an inch wouldnt hurt.... Turns out there is a big difference in the 1 inch, I had to lift my rear bumper to keep it from looking stupid! But on the ranger it was a lot easyer to lift then the Broncos would have been. Also I had to drop the steering flange(at the firewall) 1" to keep my steering from binding(Rag joints were in a mojor bind), and drill 2 holes in the bed for the extra lift blocks. And Cant forget the radiator drop brackets(For eather lift 2 or 3 inch this should be done, DONT CUT YOUR FAN SHROUD!)
After all the work making the 3"bodylift work.(the way it should) I would have to say go with the 3Inch. Wish i would have on my BroncoII even with the extra work its worth it...
But eather way you decide to go, a bodylift is not a bad idea. Things like the extra engine bay space and larger tire size along with the cost vs. a susp. lift, and if you ever want to swap engines this will come in very handy. Bodylifts are not all bad.
Here is a picture of my 86 Ranger XL, NOTE it also has a 2" susp. lift( 132xs skyjacker coils(front)/explorer leafs.(rear) 31" wildcat EXTs off my BII =( just till I get this reman 2.9 in her....=)
It still needs an inch or so in the rear, that can be done with shackles off ebay for about $50.(for the susp. lift)
The only thing I dont like about the bodylifts is they dont come with brackets for the front bumper so you see the "humps" where the body would sit on the frame. (front only)
Not that big of an issue as i should have the money in a month or so to build my bumpers. =)
Hope that helps you. (NOTE: I DIDNOT LOWER MY STEERING FLANGE ON THE BII, BUT I WILL BE DOING IT TO SAVE THE RAG JOINTS ANYWAY.. BUT I DONT FEEL IT IS NEEDED, ON A 2".)
