i am trying to figure out which wiring harness will work, im trying to find a harness out of a 5.0 mustang with an auto trans with no luck. My question is can i use a standard trans wiring harness on my auto? and would a 4 cylinder harness fit with a 5.0 injector harness? a need any help i caan get thanks

Which auto? AOD? On most things I've worked on the transmission harness for the AOD was seperate from the main harness and contained wires for the nss and reverse lights and sometimes had wires for an O2 sensor. On my '93 Ranger with a 4.0 and auto I don't even need to touch the trans harness... it will work just how it is.

Assuming you are using an AOD or c4 trans, and not a later AODE or 4R70W.

You can use any year V8 Mustang harness, '87 to '93.
You can use manual or auto, it won't matter, there is no transmission control done by the computer. The computer itself can be from a manual or auto, will not matter.
The harness is three pieces: Main harness, injector harness, O2 harness.

There will be slight wiring differences based on the original trans in the donor car. If the harness came from a manual, wire it like a manual. This is in reference to circuits 30 and 46, and dictated by the O2 harness.

Here's a handy manual for reference.

As far as the tans harness goes, I kept my Ranger one attached the the 42-pin connector. You truck has a different style of main connector(s) than the '95-later trucks, though. Anyway, I just hooked the stock Ranger trans stuff to my T5 (VSS, reverse lights) It was very straightforward.

If you don't have it, I recommend purchasing the Harwood swap manual (Google Harwood Ranger). It will walk you through this step by step.

ok so any 5.0 harness will work? i got my ranger trans harness there too, and i got the harwood manual, its great, but thanks for the help oh and i am using an aod

Yes and no, depending on how good you are at electrical work. Some engines have the tfi on the distributor and some have it mounted externally, some engine are maf and some are speed density. What is your 5.0 from?

sorry i meant distributor mounted tfi and maf, easiest way to go

Mustang harness would be simple. My crown vic harnesss is simple, but is for speed density, so I'll have to add the maf wires in there. Im not sure if the crown Vic injector connectors will fit an HO injector, they looked different, but I wasn't really paying much attention at the time. Thunderbird and explorer harnesses will not work without changing a lot of stuff.

You can use any year V8 Mustang harness, '87 to '93.

There's your best bet, and the easiest. '87 and '88 will be Speed Density.
The Harwood manual is based on the '93 harness and Ford Motorsport harness in the link I've posted. This one has the fuel pump relay in the engine harness.

This is a small difference, as your truck is already EFI and you'll only be connecting to the existing wiring to the fuel pump (relay, inertia switch...) It's "Pin15" in Harwood speak, Mustang ECU pin 22- check your Ranger eVTM as this circuit (Dg/Y from inertia switch) must actually be in the engine bay of your truck, in one of the main connectors. They don't seem to address the FPM circuit at all. (not found in speed density cars) It's pin 19 in Mass Air cars.

The Harwood manual is a little sketchy here, but ask us any question if they come up.

ok so what your saying is just run a wire from my ranger wiring to the pin on the computer of the mustang harness, and great job on your truck your build was awesome, and you did speed density eh, how did you like it, thanks
