My 2000 Ranger needs a new windshield and I would like to price them at the local salvage yards. What year breaks should I look for that will work on my 2000 model?

I'm pretty sure it's all years since 93

Check at the local salvage yard for what they want for the piece of glass only after you've
called around to your local auto glass places.

I know at my local junkyards they want $35-$40 for a windshield "loose".

the local glass places want $80 to install one.
they will not warranty it agaisnt leaking and/or cracking

But for $145 I can drive to the local glass place and have a cup of coffee, eat a donut
and watch You-Tube videos on my laptop while they install it while I wait.
AND get a 1year warranty against cracks or leaks.

My Ranger is currently wearing it's fourth windshield, the last one was only about a
year old when I had a high speed collision with an airborn wild turkey

I was thinking 93 and up would be it.

Wild Turkey will do that.

I agree, I plan to check with a glass place as well.

+1 on AllanD's advice (as usual.) i've had two windshields replaced in the last three months. They actually came to my work and did it in the parking lot!.

Be glad you live in the land of cheap stuff.

I called the only three glass shops in town, and the least expensive windshield for my Ranger was $285 + tax.

For comparison, I just had a new windshield put in a 2012 GMC full size truck (my company truck) for $299 out the door. Go figure.

i got mine done by safelite. like 160 bux and they came and did it in my driveway, and vacuumd my truck when they were done haha

I paid $175 for my Jeep Grand Cherokee, but its a little more complicated to change than a Ranger and I was given a deal because I know the glass guy. I agree though, just have someone do it, changing a windshield is not an easy task when you don't do it for a living.

The place I use is a regional/local chain (the name escapes me at the moment they have four locations in northeast pennsylvania that I know of...

I literally have to make four turns to get there so knowing their name isn't terribly important.

+1 on Safelite. Haven't had to do a windshield on the Ranger since I bought it 2 years ago, but I don't think (on past cars) I have ever paid more than $200 with them on any windshield, and they have always come to me. My last one on my other car was $194 installed

One question I do have is, do all Rangers come without the tinted strip on the top of the windshield?

All the ranger windshields ive bought (4 of them) have had tint.
