Do I need to drain coolant to replace ECT sensor ?


be speedy......should have factory goo.....if not tape is fine.....leave 1st threads bare.
 
No you dont have to drain coolant. You might lose a tablespoon changing it
 
No reason to skip threads with your tape. Better sensors have the entire thread area covered.
 
after the engine cools, leave the cap on, dont take it off....
That will create a vacuume maybe & keep the coolant in....
keep it from pouring out...
