What transmissions can I use on a 302?

It will work but CEL(check engine light) will be on all the time because there are are no transmission solenoids connected and working

The computer can be reprogrammed to delete Automatic section, and for better power vs MPG, and PATS can be deleted

Another question. The donor explorer I have doesn’t have the rear end in it anymore. But I have found a 308 rear axle from an old f150. Will this work well for my set up?

F-150 axle is a bit too wide, 62", Explorer axle is 59" and Rangers used 58"
You can use any axle but will have to cut off spring perches and re-weld them on to match Ranger frame and leaf spring location

Any 8.8" rear axle from a Ranger or Mazda B-series will just bolt in and can handle V8 power
Axle ratio is up to you, lower ratio(3.08) is higher top speed, higher ratio(4.10) is quicker acceleration

L/S - limited slip, is a good one to use



Computer programming
Check with local Speed Shops, they often know people who can program Ford PCMs(EECs)
Also I think there are some programmers that advertise on ebay
