what trans should i use

ok i got a 5.0 to day and i wanna do a swap but i dont know if i would b better off jus getting a f150 trans and transfer case or if i should try and use the 5speed thats already in my truck... please help me decide wich is the better route my truck is a 1990 4.0 with a 5speed out of a explorer

Being an owner of the 4.0 and a Auto trans , I Would say go for the F-150 Or Bronco Trans and Transfer case , Are you Planing on lifting Or Doing anything with your Axles ?

The trans that is already in your truck won't bolt to a 5.0 and its bell housing cannot be removed. This leaves you pretty much no option to use the existing trans which means you should just send it to me.

Don't waste money on adapters. Use a fullsize transmission and t-case.

NV 4500....creeper 1st, 5 speed manual overdrive transmission.

NV4500s are nice in all but still need to buy an adapter bellhousing and such. If you want that route use a ZF off a 351 powered F250/350. All factory parts and can be had at any part store. Any SBF fullsize trans will work manual or auto, some fit better than others and aside from some odd t-cases all the modern fullsize ones will work. I won't go in depth on the odd ones because you will most likely have a hard time even finding them.

thanks 4 the help i thought my bell housing was removable but i guess not i have never pulled the trans out of it before
