I'm curious as to what everyone is running in their rangers for a tranny after the v8 swap. I initially had a top loader 3 speed, cast iron monster.. Last year I put in the top loader 3spd with OD...brought my rpms down crusing- and saved a few bucks each fill up. I'd like to have another gear, so would that only leave me with a t-5?

I could put an auto in it....but I'm not sure if I'd like that.......what are you running??

Just started my swap but I'll be using the 4r70w auto.

I used a small block ZF5 from a 90s F250. It's a 5 speed. 1st is granny low and 5th is overdrive. Awesome transmission.

If you're 2wd, the T5 would be my first choice, if you're a stock daily driven 4wd, I'd go with the M5ODR2, if a weekend wheeler or offroader, the ZF 5dpd...

Just a 2wd...I'm starting to look around for a t-5 now. Think there will be much to be concerned with where the shifter comes through the floor, I dunno where the shifter will end up compared to the toploader...........

I went with M5ODR2 from a V-6 F-150 with my V-8 swap as everything was in same spot: connector for reverse/neutral, hydraulic clutch, transmission mount and drive shaft (call me lazy). I also wanted the 3.91:1 first from the M5OD versus the 2.97:1 from the T-5.

If you do through Mr. Brown's build, you will see how he handled the clutch, the mount and modifying the floor to fit. If you don't want cut the floor; you can always swap the tail shaft housing from an S-10 onto the T-5, and shifter will basically be in the stock position.

Im not having any luck with the t5. I did however find a M5ODR2. I had the truck out for a late night cruise lastnight and noticed that the throw out bearing is getting noisy. Any suggestions on what I would ask for ordering this bearing? I had the t-18 in it and now the 3 spd with od, I'm not sure what that one is called. It has an aluminium case.

Any suggestions?

Thanks. I was thinking just to order one for a 87 mustang since that is what the engine is from.......

Tremec 3550 with mid-shift for 4x2 and T-5 for the 4x4.

I'm running kind of an odd ball compared to u guys but its an aod like out of an 80s f150 would NOT!! Recommend anyone use this setup the TV cable is a pain and u have to get an adapter to use it with the Borg warnner t case

Grrrrr, the guy that has the M5ODR2 said he doesn't have the shifter stick!

i use a 4l80 in my ranger. its brutally strong.

i would argue the aod with some simple mods or the 4r70 if your using the system of efi that supports it would be the best trans you can use with ford windsors.

but if your stuck on a manual...the r2 is the most cost effective for a 4x4. t5 if you can find one for a 2wd v8.

both are weak for serious power and traction.

regardless, i have destroyed them all.:dunno:
