What trans do I need

Hi all, I recently bought an 87 ranger dual tank 4x4 with a 2.9 efi. It currently has an auto with the shifters on the floor. I'm wanting to convert it to a manual and want to know what trans I need to look for. Any help is appreciated

M50d will be the best transmission to put behind that. Look for one from a 4.0l equipped truck, and get the flywheel to go with it, that way you'll have a larger diameter clutch than what a 2.9 would have come with.

thanks for the reply, are the clutches hydraulic? if so how hard its it to get all the linkage to the clutch pedal right?

so any m5od trans will fit my 2.9? just for the hd trans i need to make my own mount for the t-case linkage?

ok well i found a ranger at the salvage yard that is a manual but its missing it motor and i nor they have any idea what was in it. how could i tell what trans it was for?

Vin number, 8th digit. That will tell you what was originally in the truck. 'X' was 4.0 in 93...not sure about other years.
