I have a 83 ranger that had the 302 swap already done to it. i was also told that it had a half ton truck tranny in it. What I do know is that it's a 4 speed manual and first is "bull" low. I've been looking at this page: http://www.fordification.com/tech/transID-man.htm and I think it's the np435 by the looks of the shifting sequence. Can I identify that way?

Basically what I need to figure out is what to order for the output shaft seal because it's leaking.

Thanks

Could be one of 3 different ones. If it has an aluminum top cover it's an NP 435. All iron it's a T18 or T19 The 18 should have an "18" cast into the side and has one PTO output, the 19 has 2 PTO outputs

Ok, now I'm thinking that it's a t-18. One "cover" on the passenger side. Also, I got prying around the top of it with a magnet and it stuck to everything.

Anyone know if the output seal where the driveshaft goes in are the same size for the 3 possibilities?

Thanks

So far I've tried 3 seals, none of which were the right size. So, I'm now on the hunt for a t-5 for in my ranger. My boss keeps telling me to find one, so the research begins.

The only markings I found on the current seal that's in it were: ABCD-8, and D6tR-7052-AA. I googled them and no luck there.

As far as the tranny goes, the tag that was on it was so rusted that i couldn't find any numbers on it after a wire wheelin'. And the numbers on the drivers side of it I THINK are 01055907. No luck online with those numbers either

I found a t5. So what will I need from here? Flywheel? Clutch? ETC...

thanks

thanks for all of the replies so far. i was talking to ford today, and the D6tR-7052-AA number is an ID number, not a part number. Funny thing is, he couldn't tell me a part number that it is. He could see that is was a seal, and that it was from either a 1970's or 1980's bronco- but that was it.

D6 is 1976 for the first two digits of the part number D being 70s and 6 being year.

Thanks

I've been trying to de code the rest of it...Ill let everyone know if I have any luck.

why not get the right seal?

you sure you have the proper shaft yoke?

Now that's a good question whether or not the yolk is correct. I never thought of that. All I do know is that the driveshaft is out of a granada. I'll try to touch base with the guy I bought it from to inquire about the yolk. That would explain why I can't seem to find the proper seal!!

Thanks again- I'm gettin' sooo frustrated. I hope I can get this figured out

most of the yokes are the same, and i assume you have a 28 spline.

but i have seen at least 3 28 spline diameters and 2 31 spline.

I cant remember right off what the slip yolk diameter was. I have everything wrote down in the truck. That being the wrong yolk would explain why I'm having such a hard time finding a seal. I'm gonna keep trying to locate a new yolk. Atleast one that fits a t-18.
