what tranny do i have

my truck is a 1983 ford ranger single cab dual tank 4x4 2.8 v6 what tranny do i have is it the toyo kogyo 5 5speed? and i need to know if i can get a adapter for a 4.3 v6 for this tranny? all help is apreciated i dont know why i keep buying these shitty 2.8's i am done with them got a brand new 4.3 i want to put in.

Transmission recognition is in the tech library. whatever transmission it is I would not put it behind a 4.3, use a transmission for a 4.3.

The 4.3 is a Chevy engine. WTF would you want to put that in your Ford?

Just run the 4L60 or 700R4 or whatever comes behind the 4.3. No reason to put any ranger trans behind that thing.

Just change the driveshaft over to the slip yoke to match the Chevy trans.

geez i gotcha didnt mean to affend anyone here, lol but any ways i just didnt want to go with the turbo 350 auto tranny thats with the 4.3, i dont like automatics, they are f-in boring there are good aspects to then like hill climbing and such but i would rather have a manual. i found a 3.0 fuel inj ford ranger motor runs sweet with the tranny and t-case for 300.00 i am going to go with that for right now what ya think?

Run the 4.3! Don't touch the 3.0 with a 10' pole.

Take the turbo 350, put a manual valve body in it and run it as a stick. I'm going to run the 4l60e behind mine.

My truck with 6 inches of lift that included a d30 SAS, 32inch mud tires, 3.73 gears and when it had its 2.8 tk4 in it, would do circles around my dad's 3.0 auto with 30 inch a/t tires, same brand name as mine and his having 4.10 gears.

ya after spendin a few bucks on the rear baja/crawler exo cage im thinkin about just msd, dura sparking it and puttin new rings and valves in. kinda low on money now. got some pics to come soon as well of my ride.
