So goin this weekend to pick up yet another ranger. lol There worse than crack I know. But this is a 2wd first gen 83, 2.0 4spd.
Crate 2.0 with less than 10,000 on it.
Electronic ignition crossover (No points)
Crane Fireball cam.
One barrel Carter carburetor in good shape(has a 2bbl holly to go with it) Cherry bomb glasspack
Stage 2 clutch kit 4 speed transmission
So what kind of power and mpg can I expect from this? Im tradeing my s10 to this truck if all goes well.

Expect no power.

I'd expect maybe 20 mpg but it will have no balls. I would just drive on the shoulder so not to piss people off. You may want to keep the S-10 (depending on what it has in it and mpg it gets)

yea, the 2.0 is the ford 4 cyl equivalent of a 255ci windsor V8. its an unbored 2.3...

s10 gets arond 22-25. really good on gas if you drive it right. 2.8 5 spd.

A Ranger with no power is better than an S-10 in my book.

It might be slow but it has a new motor. Do you know how the truck itself looks?
If it looks and drives nicely, I'd definitely go for it.

If you're driving a 2.8 S10 then you are already used to slow anyway :icon_thumby:

As far as I can tell from pics the truck looks in very very good shape. The s10 is pretty peppy for what it is.lol As long as the turck gets to 75 im good. It would be my daily, as the s10 is atm. Thing is tho. iv put alot of work in my little s10 love the truck but in my town alone. theres nothing BUT lowerd s10s no ranger what so ever. lol

Just don't expect much pep from that 2.0. The mpg's will be lower with that little 4 cyl trying to get to highway speeds. That's all I am saying.

I don't condone using a S-10 as a DD, but when it is fast(ish) and good on gas, it beats the crap out of a 2.0. With gas prices, I'd personally stick with the S-10.

my 2.0l gets 21mpg at 60mph mostly highway, but it need the carb rebuild, a new distributor, new plugs and wires, a wheel bearing is starting to go, the trans hasnt like me beating the living snot out of it for 4 years, and the tires where low and windows down. Might be able to get 26ish with all the crap fixed but ill probably pull it out and do a crazy turbo set up on it.

If you know your S-10 and it works ok, keep it. Trading for another older vehicle as a daily driver can become a financial burden, no matter what the make or model.

I'd get the Ranger. Like others said above, a slow Ranger is better than no Ranger. I've actually wanted one of those 2.0 Rangers to try an EFI swap with 2.3 parts.
