What to do with caliper cores (with no core charge)?

I have two brake calipers for an '85 RCLB. I bought re-man calipers from Amazon without a core charge. I would prefer these go back into the re-man process instead of the recycle/scrap stream.

Would a local auto parts store take them?

Maybe, but YOU can "reman" them as well, so you will have a spare set

Assuming they are not damaged, i.e. the bore and piston still look good
If they are damaged then they are scrap metal

Not much to rebuild them, take one apart
Just a couple of seals
Any machine shop will clean them for you, its not that much, so they look brand new

Not sure what you have but should be able to find a match
If you can still buy "remanned" calipers then someone is making the new seals, lol

They are not damaged and are still working. I just figured that while I have everything apart, I'd replace them. But, yeah, I could rebuild them myself and then have a spare set. Unless someone else is interested in having them...........

Parts store can't do much with them without a box.

Sure someone could rebuild them for their truck but if they wanted to rebuild calipers they could just rebuild the ones they have.

That's what I've done. Someone will take them if you have a box with a part number, or information regarding what vehicle the calipers came from.

Yes, I do have boxes. I'll have to see if there's a machine shop locally that's will to clean them up for me. If so, I'll rebuild them myself (provided the piston is good). Otherwise, they can go to the local car parts store.

They are not real hard to rebuild yourself. You can remove the piston with compressed air, clean everything up with brake cleaner or in a parts washer, hone the cylinder walls, reassemble.

Here's a kick in the nutz; searching thru the spares that came with the truck (for tie-rods, drag link, etc.) I find two new calipers in boxes and they're even powder-coated (red).

Guess the old ones are going in the boxes and going to the parts store.

Yard art, or table piece...My buddys dad was a high school auto shop teacher, he made a display of a drum and disc brake system, the kind where its cut out to show internals. It was pretty cool.

Or right in the old trash can.
