My brother had one he got at his job (ford dealer)
it came in on a wrecker (broken timing belt)
and when the owner got an estimate on the repair
bill he looked at the 185k miles showing on the odo,
handed the title to the service manager and walked
upstairs to the sales department and bought a new
focus....
a week later the service manager walked over to my
brother pointed to it and said, the wholesaler didn't
want it and told us to junk it, do you want it?
My brother put a new timing belt on it, and replaced the
plugs and wires and drove it for a year before he moved
to Wyoming.
when he moved he simply handed the keys to my mother and
said "It's yours".
OTHER than replacing the shift cable, both front wheel bearings,
lower ball joints and brakes... it's still going.
205k on the original engine and trans.
And I've gotten 488 miles out of it's 12gallon tank of fuel
on more than one occasion.
The only "odd" thing I did to the car was put on a set of 15" '95 Escort GT
rims and 205/50-15 Eagle GA tires on it... (A friend wrecked his VR6 Jetta
while it was wearing it's winter shoes and I got his summer rubber
when he bought a Subaru it wouldn't fit
I don't know where the cornering limit on that car is but I've NEVER
been able to make it slide. I'm afraid that at whatever it's cornering
limit is it'll simply tip over.
It's no ball of fire but the bugger runs, I hate the seats, but I don't drive it.
