What to choose? CRF of TTR?

I definitely agree with all you guys about getting a bike that you will grow into.
As long as you aren't going from riding something like a KX80 to something like a CR500 or some insane step up like that, you'll be fine.

The 230 really gives you the best of a few worlds. You get the somewhat smaller bikes size, with the more power, yet retaining the trail gearing as opposed to the close ratio MX gearing. The one thing about motocross bikes is the gearing. The gearing sucks for trails (I rode a KX100 for probably 4 years, and now I have a CR125). The 4 stroke MX bikes I know aren't as bad a 2strokes though, because they have way more torque.

Yeah, if I don't keep my 125 in powerband, I pretty much don't go anywhere. That's why I'm gona go with the KX-F 250. I just need that low end for the trails. I took my kx 125 to the sand for Memorial Day, and it was more of a joke then anything. I can't believe I didn't blow it up! That poor bike went through hell.:headbang:

i got the crf150f and one of my buddies rides a ttr125,
we ride our bikes to hell, i have mine in water way up past the foot pegs, i just stand on the seat and go, and put it through mud where a 4x4 quad got stuck, and that bike never fails, i will admit, i am not easy on the bike, i usually have it on the handle, so im always razzing the guts out of it. and she never failed on me once. the ttr on the other hand.. well that was garbage, she always had problems with sprokets, engine problems, oil leaks, and both are 2004. so he recently sold the ttr and bought a crf230f. and she never failed yet
and the bike isnt the fastest, i mean i was clocked at 95kmh and was almost at top speed, but she has plenty of power, when you dump the clutch in 2nd gear you can do a wheelie for ever.
hope this helps, just speaking from experience
