similar to ranger wanting to put on 15inch wheels on what size tire's will fit without rubbing. Factory is currently is 225/70-14's

235-75-15, 30x9.50x15.............will depend on the wheels you use! Those sizes are just about guaranteed to fit fine and not rub on factory wheels. Wider wheels, those with more than stock negative offset, etc, you may have rubbing.

265-75-15 was a factory size on some of our trucks as well. Those are just about equivalent to a 31-10.5-15. I would expect those sizes to rub on a 2wd truck.

Consider your rear axle ratio. My last 2wd ranger had 3.73s from the factory, so the jump from its stock 27.5" tires to 30" tires wasn't completely awful.. but if it's any lower I'd definitely reccomend getting it re-geared.

What wheels do you have on it?

I have a set of 31-10.50 Duratracs on stock deer hoof wheels. They rub the front and rear of the front wheel well liner on my stock height 94 Explorer. They rub just a tiny bit on my '88 stepside truck but it has a 2" lift.

I also have a set of BFG 30-9.50-15's on Mickey Thompson 15x8's that I had on my 88 Ranger and are now on my 92 Explorer. They rubbed quite a bit on the 88 (stock height) and they still rub the back of the wheel well liners on the Explorer even though it has a 1.5" lift.

3rd gen trucks have a lot more room to play with in the wheel wells. I suspect that any of the wheel/tire combos ^^^^ that I have would be fine on a 3rd gen.

I have a 1998 2.5L 2WD and the original wheels were also 225/70R14 (14x6 rims). I swapped them for 245/70R16 wheels from another Ranger (16x7 rims) and they work perfectly (no rubbing). The picture shows the current 245/70R16 wheels.
