Hopefully not another stupid question but i'm looking into getting some new shocks and i needed some help figuring out what size i need. I was looking at some Nitro 9000 Gas Shocks from JC Whitney mainly cause they were 36.99 each which is affordable. I was going to go with Rancho shocks but they were a little more and i'm not sure they were worth the price diff of about 80 dollars for all 4. But anyways i'm going to install some Explorer Coil Springs on my stock 83 ranger hopeing to help level it out and beef up the front suspension some, and i dont know whether to get shocks for 0-1" of lift which i'm assuming is standard or the shocks for 1.5 - 2.5 inches of lift. I chatted with the jc whitney help guy and he said to install the springs first and figure from their but i want to put the shocks on at the same time to expidite time. Also i'm considering puting some explorer leaf springs in the rear also and didnt know whether i could use standard shocks or the 1.5-2.5 lift shocks. Not sure what will happen to the shocks if i get the lift shocks without having the lift, just a stiffer ride? or a shorter life of shocks? Please help out i need to order the shocks asap so any help will be appriciated thanks!

Do what the guy said, lift then measure what you need just to be safe.

Hey Bryan, coils will be out tomorrow

the only difference between stock length shocks and lift shocks is the length of travel, the ride shouldn't change.

I didn't notice much of a ride difference with the explorer leafs myself like many mention, it's a truck, and mine isn't exactly setup for passenger comfort nor will it be...

true. Ride comfort is really no option to me. I'm somewhat convinced that my shocks are totally shot and i could use new coils and leafs anyways....but ya i'm not looking for the ride to be more comfortable i just didnt want to buy the wrong size shocks and potentially ruin them....btw thanks for the feedback guys.
