hey so i'm doing a D30 swap and i wanna use hiems and build customs arms. with that said i'm ordering them from ruff stuff cuz they sell them in pairs with jam nuts, misalignment spacers and tube adapters. My question is which size do i need. i'm looking at the 3/4 or 7/8"... the 3/4" doesn't say the overall size but it comes with adapters for 1" tube. the 7/8" come with adapters for 1.5" tube. the mounts on the axle are 2.5" wide.

the people that i've seen that have done SAS' have used the tractor implement link ends which i think are 3/4".... i'm definitely leaning towards the 7/8" links i just need that extra "yeah your on the right path" if you know what i mean

help please i'm impatient and bad with money so i wanna order these soon before i find stuff that i "need"

if your talking about the jounts for the link you need bigger then 3/4...

if you really want to go heims go 1.25, but your best bet would be to go jonny joints

not really linking it... it will have control arms and a track bar... actually factory track bar from the cherokee... the arms will be like 3 feet tops, havent measured for sure, and will have the upper arm built into one... like a 'y' shape with a joint on the end and on the bottom and a square pivot on the top... i think i'm going 7/8" but i just wanna know how the measure the size of the joint. is it the size of the ball? the size of the opening? size of the threads? ( don't think so cuz the 7/8 have 3/4" threads)

Joint sizing is by Shank, the threads. And bore, the bolt hole.

I used 7/8" shank, 3/4" bore hiems for my steering and some beef DOM.

As for links I would look into Jonny joints as mentioned above. Or some 1 1/4" shank, 1" bore heims.

Take a look here. http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/Rod-Ends-_c_82.html

Yeah but your runnin 1 tons. I've looked at ballistic but they want a lot more than ruff stuff and RS sells them in pairs with all the spacers and nuts and tube adapters. I've been emailing Dan at RS he said "I should tell tell you to use 1.25" joints" that tells me he was covering himself but the 7/8" are half the price and are rated at 42,000 lbs. And that's to distortion not destruction according to their site. The 1.25" joints are too wide and they don't sell 1" joints cuz they are only $3 cheaper than 1.25's says Dan. I'm only doing a Dana 30 and factory jeep uses rubber bushings on stamped metal arms. I think I'm gonna get the 7/8" joints which come with adapters for 1.5" tubing

I was just using the dimensions of my joints for steering to give you an example of the lingo of how the sizing goes.

As for the stock dana 30 stamped arms, well after bigger tires are added they are junk. Seen many of them rip in half with 35's. So im glad you are not using them, but they are not a good point to base from of what you need.

In all honesty 7/8" shank, 3/4" bore should be alright. But if you can afford and make them work I would go with something larger.

If your using a jeep axle....and jeep axle mounts..... why not buy a HD long arm kit meant for the axles application and adapt it to the ranger frame? Parts will be available.....you'll have a 'lift kit warranty' to rely on if you dont butcher it and it should come together fairly quickly.
