I have a V6 2.9L in my 1989 ford ranger 4x4 im turning it into a street legal prerunner and need to get the most out of my 2.9 looking for some suggestions I have some ideas but i want to make sure im on the right track dont want to go with a turbo thinking more with a supercharger making it breath real well timing it and some other stuff any advice is welcome.
ALL depends on how much
disposable money you have.

anything is possible...with the 2.9 there drastic limitations as to what is available to ..."get the most out of it", as far as bolt on stuff goes.
look into the TECH LIBRARY here on TRS....so many before you or I have pondered this and it is pretty much there as to what to do and how to do it.
yes you can over bore to fit 2.8 flat top pistons, (which in the end will in all likelyhood require 91+ octane gas).
then port match and polish everything, cam, headers...etc, etc. As to where you would find a super charger/blower for it???
Now dollar for dollar spent on the 2.9 would be best done, and yeild better results, by swapping it out for the 4.0.
the 4.0 has a vast array of bolt on goodies, even seen some with your super charger.
unless your offroad racing reqiures you to stay within a cubic inch displacement class...then maybe concider a turbo'd I4 2.3....done right, they can whip up some serious HP...
like stated earlier if you got the money you can do anything you want.
IF money is a consideration, or weighs into what you can do, or want to do. Then keeping it tuned regularly is the best medicine. look into the TECH LIBRARY....so many before you or I have pondered this and it is pretty much there as to what to do, and how to do it....other than adding the super charger....then mmore serious beefing up on the crank and rods would be needed.
hope that sheds some light on your quest
