What rear axles fit??

I'm looking for a 28 spline 3.73 7.5 rear axle for a 88 reg cab 4x4.

Looking around the junkyard, just wondering if other generation Rangers would work? like 97 or older?

'83-'89 should all bolt right in. '90-'92 will work also, though the pinion flange on the axle may be different (you'll probably have to swap the flange on the end of your driveshaft for it to match up).
'93 & up axles can work too, though they are 2" wider than '83-'92 axles (also, same thing with the flange).

All mustang v6 axles from 94-2004 and all mustang 4 cyl axles from 83-93 will fit, they have the 7.5 rearend with 28 spline also. Let me correct myself, from 99-2004 is a 28 spline axle and 7.5 but it is 3/4 of an inch longer on either end than pre-98. THis is a good 7.5 swap from a stability standpoint htough, but you must swap the entire housing, all pre-98 should fit fine though.
