im swaping a 302 in my ranger ang im using the radiator out or a 4.0l explorer. What vehicle can i get radiator hoses off of that will work?

Good luck finding one that fits without cutting and splicing. I took a coat hanger and bent it into the shape that worked for me. After almost an hour behind the counter at the parts store looking at every radiator hose they had with no luck. I chose one that the turns matched but were clocked the wrong way so I cut and spliced it to fit.

My upper is a spliced hose, lower is a flex hose with the right sized ends. I cut my upper a little too short, it could have fit better.

ok thanks and another question what kind of alternators are you guys runnin ive got one off a 1989 F150 will that work if i get the connector off the truck for the alt?

i dont remember what works best with that particular situation you have. i assume you have the radiator in the stock location. like mentioned trial fit with wire shouldnt take too long if you are willing to splice....a big variance is the water neck/t-stat housing one chooses to use.

i prefer to use a bigger radiator and modify the core support/upper frame rails to fit it. simply to maximize cooling potential and space. the 25ish x 19ish ford type radiators from summit work well. its nice to be able to swap a water pump in 1/2 hour too.

the moroso type inline rad cap fitting, spliced into a mustang upper works good, with a 80,s f series lower modifed a bit work well with the summit radiator.

I am using the same alternator that was on my 2.8... which oddly by application is off a '86 2.9 (internally regulated)

Now that I have been thru working on it a couple times, a lot can be said for space. It is tight with the Ex radiator in the stock location and a two row serpantine belt set up. Just going with a shorter front accessory drive would free up A LOT of room. Moving the radiator would help even more.

I figured "big deal", a reman water pump should last a long time. A half day ordeal changing the water pump every 10-15 years wouldn't be a big deal. Two weeks later I was changing the leaking reman water pump with a new one... and a month and a half later the harmonic balancer.

Next time, heads will roll... different FEAD :annoyed:

I am using a stock V8 Explorer upper rad hose and a stock lower rad hose for a 97 Ranger 4L V6. No custom hoses for me and they fit like factory on mine. Oh yea I am using a 97 Ranger HD 4L rad in my 94 Ranger. This is the only pic that I can find right now that showes the rad hose.

Here's the best pic I have with me.

I'm running a 31"x16" summit rad. with a long (5.70") water pump. Rad is not recessed into the core support and still have about 1" of clearance between pump and rad.

Dang, that looks sharp. :icon_thumby:

I couldn't get stock 4.0 hoses to go on my water pump or thermostat housing or I would have gone that route. The only guy to see to see the lower is the guy I run over... I doubt he will comment on my flex hose. The upper bugs me but is functional for now.
