What part is this?

I have a 98 ranger v6 3L

I was changing the oil filter today, from underneath, and found this part resting on the chasis in the gap under the oil filter. It is broken off from somewhere and was just floating around the engine compartment I guess untill I pulled it out. It is plastic and black. It looks like it is used to collect fluid and divert it somewhere, as it has a little resevoiur and funnel that looks like could connect to a hose. I looked around inside but dont see anything broken off or hoses disconnected. If anyone knows I would really appreciate any insight!

Thanks

Luke

it goes under the oil filter to direct oil (from removing the filter) away from the frame.

Yep thats what it is, doesn't do a whole ton of good though the hose on it should be a foot longer to direct oil better even if it came with one it probably falls off before a couple years.

Had the same thing happen the other day when changing the oil on my truck. I just tossed it in the trash. It's not like it does a whole lot of good anyway...
