What oil do you use?

i run Rotella T in my 2.9

My dad has run the Rotella in his past two Chevy P/U's (longbed 2wd '91 and his newest one, a '94 flareside w/ a stick). Swears by it.

I'm having gook luck running the Shell Formula in my Ranger.

I would use either Pennzoil, Havoline, Max Life, or Motorcraft in 5w-30 and a Motorcraft filter. Since it hasn't been run on synthetic there isn't a lot of point to switching now. It won't hurt, it's just that it won't help either, and I'd tell you to save your money. Pennzoil and Havoline use a Group III base oil that is nearly as good as synthetic.

my 99 gets valvoline 5w-30 and the old 85' gets penzoil 10w-40. it used to get the chevron .80 cents a quart crap or supertech(walmart brand). lol

I mean just look at the DIVERSITY in oil use with the most common last comment being ( I HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS )

One can safely say in MOST situations the BRAND of oil you are using is IRRELEVANT as long as you keep it changed when you are suppose to and hey if you are so anal that you think changing it every 2,500 or 3,000 miles will keep your truck healthier well, then, that's ok too after all it's your time and money.

Now for me personally I use 1 quart of Lucas oil and 4 quarts of quaker state high mileage 5w30 BECAUSE I have ( 240,000 ) miles and if I don't use the lucas and high mileage oil it burns it off much faster and I have to ad oil between oil changes. Thicker non synthetic in my case works best because of oil consumption on my tired old engine, bless her soul!!!

I use Valvoline 5w30 conventional five L and quaker state 10W30 summer....----» I've already used the mobil 1 super 1000 and 2000 with a super fuel economy----»just use the oil syntetic after run 2500 miles----»question for friction and warranty

How very true. Despite all the info to the contray, the oil on my truck gets changed every 3-4 thousand miles. An oil, lube & filter is cheap insurance. Besides, whe my mechanic or myself is under there, it gives a chance to look at the undercarrage for minor problems or leaks.

+1 on the Mobil1 and Motorcraft filter. I just change mine every three months. Since I have the company truck my Ranger only gets driven on weekends, and random days when I feel the need to ride in a vehicle that's actually well built after being in the POS company rig all day.

LOL. Someone find the pictures of the engine that had 40,000 miles on it and it had never had an oil change for this guy.

Changing your oil is not a gimic or some money making scheme.

Whatever is on sale for $15 with a purolator filter is what I get. Most of the time it is valvoline or pennzoil. I just tend to stay far away from fram filters. Not so picky about the oil.

I know they say you need to change your oil but just for example when (a long time ago) when I was young and was a mechanic for GM every motor we replaced the oil was changed every 3to 5000 miles. My wife's 02 Exploder has had two motors put in by Ford both motors never ran hot but the piston's and most of the barings were scared and it also lost compresion. The oil was changed by the same Ford del. she bought it from and they told her it was oil failure. Just thought it was funny. I in no way tell people to not change thier oil but all my rigs are from the mid to late 80's and never have had a oilchange sence I have owened them but if they ever blow I will just put a bigger motor in them. Bigger is better. LOL.

something about changing my own oil makes me feel good. And when i drive it the first time it always seems to run way better. Whether it actually runs better or not i'm not sure but its a peace of mind to do it.
