What octane can I run in a stock 2.9l v6?

I don't have the engine. I don't have the cam's spec card. I DO have it's twin, however it was damaged in a garage flood and is not useable.
I'm moreso interested in the results of said cam tbh

Overall power didn't seem to be particularly affected, however it had quite the nice acceleration curve.

With 500 lbs in the bed I'd still have to hunt gears on a winding road, which I never had to do with the 4.0, but if you got on a straight-away and just cracked it open it would put you back in the seat.

Well damnit. Now I need a cam. Any idea where it came from?

That's what I did with the brake booster method. Ran it til it stalled, let it sit like half an hour. When started, it smoked out the neighborhood. Both times. Big huge stinky cloud. It was kind of fun, to tell the truth. Yeah, maybe I'll try the spray method this weekend.

This is what I do at least two times a year in my 4.0 OHV but I only use one can of PM3 each time.

I tried the spray Seafoam and the liquid version and neither worked anywhere near as well as the PM3.

What's PM3? I see, read the article. Some over-priced high fallutin Ford stuff. My personal favorite is Berryman's B-12. Check the ingredients some time. Acetone, MEK, Methanol and toluene. You don't want to get it on you or the vehicles paint. Anyhow, the part about brisk acceleration and operation over 3000 RPM? Every time I drive it. More than once. I beat it like a red-headed stepchild. Whip it like a rented mule. I doubt I have a carbon problem, even with using 93 octane. I run it to redline all the time. And heading for 166,000 miles soon, likely next week.

I pour water down the carb throat while controlling rpms. I do the same into the throttle body. Hell of a lot cheaper and does the same job.

PM3 is about the same price as any of that other crap. I've tried B-12 and it never did shit for me. I beat mine WOT daily getting on I270 and I still get carbon. It's a Ford thing.

I'll have to check the ingredients but it's more of a naphtha based mix. Not sure of exact contents. I get it for about $6 a bottle (last time I ordered it). I order about 6 at a time online and pickup at a dealer for free shipping.

I've tried probably 20 different "products" over the years. I won't dump water into my intake. I'd probably do that on my 67 but not the Ranger.

Nope. You don't have carbon buildup. Don't worry about it.

I dump water in my throttle body any time my TPS reads >69%

Yep. Even written deep within the tune I wrote for the 2.9

Yup, done that before. Had an old Pontiac Firebird Formula 400. It started making a knocking sound one day. This was years ago. Anyhow, my Dad told me to do just that. It worked, knocking went away.

Anyhow, back to ethanol for a few minutes. Lots of guys with Lightnings run E85. They're making huge power with it as well. Far more than can be made on 93 octane to be sure. One friend has a Lightning, he deleted the blower and replaced it with a a 92 mm turbo. Built engine. Runs E100 in it. Says the E100 is better since you don't have to wonder if it really is E85, or possibly E70. It fluctuates at the pump, and most carry testers in their vehicles so they can know right away of it's not E85. I don't want to mess with all that, keeping it simple and running 93 is good enough for me.

The day my friend fired up that turbo monster for the first time, I was there. It was in a closed building as it was winter time. Whew! The smell! Smelled better than any gasoline burning vehicle.

That turbo was dynoed at just under 1000 hp. That's a far cry from the stock 380. Another friend runs E85 on a monster Kenne Bell blown Lightning, making right at 750 hp. Not going to do that on gasoline.

My butt itches

The government is extremely serious these days about regulating Methyl Ethyl Ketone in most consumer grade products because it's so seriously harmful to humans. Toluene isn't any better but it isn't regulated quite as harshly, yet.

Custom spec'd by the guy I got it from, ground for him by a machinist he knows.

If I can find the one I still have I'll send it along and maybe you can get it copied. I'm pretty sure it is on the shelf with my spare Cologne parts.

but if you got on a straight-away and just cracked it open it would put you back in the seat.

Stock they'll do that.
