I went to my local muffler shop and asked what they can do for me and they said they had 2 mufflers. One is a super turbo which is $60 installed and their is one equivalent to a flowmaster 40 which is $90 installed. I dont want my truck crazy loud just something that will sound nice. I also saw that their is a reduction right before the 2 bolts that hold the exhaust to the cats. I was wondering if cutting this off and replacing it with the same size pipe, 2.5 inch, would i see and improvements instead of just welding the exhaust on their?

personally, i would just weld a muffler in place and leave it.

the super turbo has a nice low rumble to it. but its very tame. very nice imo

the flowmaster has an awesome rumble to it. but i drones alot on the inside and drives you crazy. plus tends too sound tinney at upper rpms.

I would go for the 40 series, The muffler is self cost about 65, So if your getting it installed for 90, that is a steal. the other muffler is crap, they cost like 15 bucks and last for about a year.

just saying...

The dynomax super turbo is a great muffler. I had one on my last car and I liked it alot. And it was fine. Had it on for 3 years and it's still going.

I think i am going to do the super turbo since i have a friend with a flowmaster 40 on his 4.0l sohc and imo it sounds like a pissed off bumble bee. Since i am going for the super turbo do you recommend me to dump the exhaust or weld it inlace of the stock one?

Weld it in place if the stock one. The longer the pipe on a turbo muffler, the better it sounds.

If you want it to last longer. Get a good exhaust ceramic paint from an autoparts store and paint the muffler and all the pipes and they will lost a good long time

Oh so i will just do it in place of the stock one. I am going to leave that small reduction their and i am going to do a 2.5 inch from the cat to the exhaust and their either do a 2.5 inch back or maybe a little bigger, what do you recommend? I do live on about 2 miles of dirt road and i put my truck through some good amount of abuse so i might do the ceramic paint.

dont go any bigger than 2.5'' thats plenty for a 4.0

heck, even the stock 2 1/4 is fine

i personally, if the rest of the system is good, just have the shop cut off your old muffler and weld on the new one.

no need to replace it if it aint rotted.

and take some 120 grit sand paper to the muffler and pipes before spraying them with the ceramic paint, this will give the paint a good bite and help it not flake off.

I think i will just do 2.5" from the cat back but i will see what the shop will do. They are really cheap and have a good reputation.
