What motor to drop in for beater '90 truck?

Cheapest and easiest way is to buy another old truck. As long as he isn't too concerned about looks; there are plenty of first and second generation Rangers on Craigslist or in the wantads for $1500 or less.

Otherwise, for his uses; I would go with a used 2.9 for a couple of hundred dollars.

For a beater, this makes the most sense. Why drop in a reman for the same cost as the truck as a whole?

I can understand where he's coming from since his now deceased father-in-law bought it new and it's been in his family ever since. Besides the sentimental value, it's in about the best condition one could hope to find a '90 beater Ranger in with great tires, great brakes, R-134A conversion with a new compressor, interior is excellent, interior is excellent, and so on. If it were my truck I'd drop a motor in it, hell it's in better condition than my 2004 Ranger!:annoyed:

If the guy has sentimental attachment , the the sky is the limit.:D
