I just purchased a 4x4 94 ranger with the 4.0 V6. I noticed in the Chilton book theres two V6 moters, 4.0L (pushrod) V6 and a 4.0L SOHC V6. How do i know which moter i have.

With math.

Subtract your model year form 2001.5. If you get a positive number greater than 1 you have a push rod. If you get a negative number you have a pushrod.

I see what you did there.

so what your telling me is its a pushrod lol:headbang:

Barring the previous owner being an evil genius, yes.

96 or 97 was the first year for the SOHC in the Explorer. The Ranger didn't get it until some time in 2001. I believe the two engines were available side by side in the Ranger for a bit, and then the OHV was discontinued by 2002.
