Hi just joined the website because it covers the Mazda B-Series trucks. I own a 1984 Mazda B2000 Sundowner and I don't know what kind of transmission is in it. I've been told it could be a 5-speed Toyo Kogyo but I would like to know for sure because I'm doing a 351W swap in it and before I go buying a T5 from a Mustang. I would like to know what kind of transmission is in it so that I can either buy an adapter plate for the original transmission for the engine swap or do I try my luck with the T5. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Welcome to the Ranger Station! We mainly specialize in Ford Rangers and the B-series after about 1994, but we can still help you out ;)
Now, I can''t tell you what transmission is in it, but know that the original engine is a four-cylinder, I highly doubt that you will find an adapter plate for it. Also, I doubt that the original transmission would handle the torque of that 351. You'd be much better off getting the Mustang T-5 or a M5OD out of a F-150

Thanks JDM for your help if I remember perfectly isn't the M5OD a 5 speed with an Overdrive on it if so let me know as soon as you read this or anyone else does I'm trying to save money on the swap and if I can get 5 speed with an Overdrive on it for much less than the T5 I'm going to :yahoo:

Yeah the M5OD is a 5 speed with overdrive. I believe you'll be looking for the M5OD-2 or something along those lines. It's built for a full-size so you might have space issues that you wouldn't have with the T-5

If I can I'm going to try to get a Mustang GT 5 speed to go into it I got my friend helping me out with the swap as well. He also works as a parts puller at a local junkyard in my area so I'm getting the parts at what he would be paying for them heck I'm only paying $150 for a 351W with an Edelbrock intake and carb.

just make sure the bolt pattern is the same from the engine to the tranny, cause the engine you are prolly pulling from is gunna be a 5.0L mustang prolly

A small block Ford pattern is a small block Ford pattern. He should be fine pulling one from a 5.0 mustang to matw to a 351W. It's the 4.6's to watch out for.

Now the next thing I have to worry about is uping the gearing on the rear-end I think I'm going to go with a 4.11 gearing for top end. I do know the Ford Courier 1979-1982 is interchangeable but now I wonder whether the Ford Courier rear-end is the same as the Ranger too. If so that is a big money saver for me so that I don't have to order a custom gearing for the rear-end.

What do you have in the rear now? 4.11's are pretty low gears if you are going to go for top end. If you want top end 3.45s or 3.27s would be much better choices.

4.11 is pretty low gearing for power like that, listen to adsm, he knows what's up. Far as that goes, why not just try the whole 8.8 thing? I know it'll likely be a little wider than stock, but heck, you're getting a beefy rear end.

Do you think the stock rear-end will hold up to V8 power? If it were my truck I'd be swapping the rear-end for something a little beefier.

Nope that is why I'm trying to get a better differential for it I'm just trying to find the perfect fit for it without any heavy modifications.
