i need new tires soon and dont know what kind to get. i need 35's it is my dd would like to have something that is good in the mud. but also good on wet roads.i was thinking about cooper stt but they are a little pricey. i know you get what you pay for. i thought there might be something else that might be just as good.any help would be appreciated

I would check out the new Goodyear MTR Kevlars.

I think the STT's are cheaper then the MT Kevlars. I have a set of STT's and they are awesome for mud and rain, I was driving home from college last week and it became a complete down pour, i was going 65 and wasn't worrying about hydroplaning or anything then it turned to slush and still had no problems.

Mud wise they are still pretty good i can't say for certain cause i still have open diffs but they pull very well.

The MT/R-Ks are great tires, but yes, they are a bit higher up on the price spectrum.

I would say try Dunlop Mud Rovers. A buddy of mine runs them and they seem to do pretty well.

STT's are a great tire I would spend the money...

If he plans to keep the tires for an extended period there seems to be an issue with the sidewalls coming apart in the rocks more so than most radials. I do rather like treadwrights I plan on a set of those for my XJ when I go from 285/75R16s to 315/75R16s.

which tire are you talking about sidewalls coming apart? :icon_confused:
i've seen all of these on DD rock crawler jeeps w/ MSJ and never seen issues with any of them... not widespread issues at least. and that's judging w/ multiple sets in different sizes and different builds and driver types.

MT/R's seen two are three sets up here and a many on pirate. Its probably not the tire and more the type of rocks coupled with people thinking kevlar is the same as bias ply. Its pretty common to find sets of 3 on craigslist here.

That being said I was 2hrs late for getting a set for myself for a good price on craigslist. Kevlar is a gimmick as far as I am concerned if pitbull tires can get by running a 2 ply sidewall without a complaint I am not convinced I need anything else. Hell most reviews show pitbull radials with thicker sidewalls than anything else on the market...
