2000 4x4 ranger - new steering issue!! yay!!

140k miles. 3.0 v6 4x4 xlt with the offroad package..

I blew hard lines to my transmission the other day and had to have the truck flatbedded.

Got the lines fixed and immediately after leaving the dealer the truck didnt feel right. took it back to the same dealer and they said oh it looks like the driver side outer tie rod and pass side inner tie rod.

....ok. so now we know joint just break themselves....

picked the truck up today and it is better, but not fixed, and scary to drive.

i hit a pot hole going 35 and the driver side shook longer than it ever has before. including the wheel. i slowed down and it stopped, it didnt continue for longer than maybe 2 or 3 seconds, but enough to make me go what in the #%^$ happened to my truck!!!

Driver side upper control arm, outer t-rod end and brakes I did myself not long after buying the truck. when they fixed the tie rods they said my lower ball joints were fine and there was no play.

im wondering if this could be struts. could the tow company have bent something? Im just at a loss. this trucK has been nothing but issues.

on a 2000 4x4 xlt w/ the factory offroad lift + torsion bars.

recently got truck towed and replaced a tie rod on one side but now i hit potholes on the driver side and the truck shakes like a MOFO.

Lowers and upper ball joints are fairly new.

Same as having bad shocks, plus it's a part that helps hold the tires in place.

Same as your other post....bad shocks/struts.
Edit; It not a hard job. rent or borrow a spring compressor and bobs your aunt....or something to that effect.

Good luck,

Richard

well the truck doesnt have a spring it has struts only in the front. and ive never had a vehicle where they have gone bad on me before.. ive usually put higher end pieces on (used to have ricers...)

just wondering what kind of things i could expect driving on a bad strut.

This thread is why we don't recommend asking a question in more than one sub-forum. Pick one and I will combine the two into one.

do apologize, realized there was a suspension only thread so made one here.

im a noob ;(

i know i can do the struts i would just hate to waste the money. i do think that is the issue tho.

Merged them together.
I do believe that new struts are the answer. If the repair shop looked the front suspension over, which they would do to get extra work, then most problems would show up in their report. Usually there are signs of strut/shock failure, such as fluid loss. If there is signs of fluid then .....

if there is fluid then that is bad yea. they must of just over looked it... cant get too pissed at them i suppose.

would it be bad if I replaced only the fronts for now?

thinking of going with ranchos.

anyone have any strut recommendations besides bilsteins?

truck has a slight lift not sure if that matters for the front.

You can replace just the front. Do it as a pair.
Sorry, no recommendations.

would being 4x4 be considered a lift? the struts im looking at have 2 options, one normal and one for trucks with a 1-2.5in lift. i look higher than most normal rangers but not crazy

this is my truck.. stock or lifted?!

You don't have struts.....You have shocks.

If it has a slight lift the only option for a longer shock is the rancho's that are listed in the tech library.

That truck looks pretty stock.

ok so another question.

i went and looked at the bolts on my torsion bars and it seems to be uncranked. but the passenger side has more bolts showing than the driver side. but the little tabs that show the bar being raised dont show the bar raised at all... if this makes any sense. anyone done this? i dont plan to but i need to figure it out bfore i buy my shocks
