what kind of issues would bad struts cause?

everything i have googled about this says it could be compensating for a sagging bar, or it could of came that way stock to compensate for the driver and everything on that side

I think you should pull a shock and measure the compressed and extended length. Then go from there.
PS My excuse for not knowing whether shock or strut is never having looked under a ranger newer than 93. Piss poor excuse, I know....

AlwaysFloored, you know 93-97 is the same.

Gabriel gas shocks are fine and are a cheap alternative. It's a stock truck, so those stock shocks should suffice. Go to any Napa, OReillys, Autozone, Advance, etc for shocks.

i actually ordered some kyb monomax shocks. i live in ohio and the roads are complete garbage, so I figured i would spend a lil extra in hopes they would do me well.

It is very common for the drivers side bar to be cranked a bit to compensate for the driver and a full tank of gas.

ah. if i planned to crank them in the future can i still go up an inch or so, or would I need to get a longer bolt?
