well im chasing 180 hp ind thought i would start with cams then port and polish the head and then idk from there???

but what i want to know is what kind of cam should i get (off road/dd)? where can i get them? how much do they cost? and on a scale of 1-10 how hard are they to install?

well i dont where you can get any, but if you have no experience with engine building, installing cams is not something i would suggest you just jump into. make sure you have all the right tools, especially a torque wrench, and plent of assmbly lube, and an istallation guide with all the specs on how much to tighten any bolts

I believe the 2.3 duratec in the Rangers uses a 2.0L duratec cylinder head/cam on top of the 2.3L short block. It may very well be possible to use the 2.3L duratec cylinder head from one of fords cars (such as the Fusion). Allowing it to breath better from the cylinder head will allow intake/exhaust/tuning modifications to be more effective.

A lot of OHTC engines require modified cylinder heads to function properly with performance cams. I ran into this when looking for cams for the 4.0 SOHC I have in the garage. To do anything I have to put aftermarket heads on it.

thanks for the info guys! im prolly not ever gonna get 180 hp outta my truck but i wouldnt mind better low end torque and at least 150 hp... i dont have the funds for an aftermarket head, seeing as i dont have a job and i just turned 18 (and just got my licence) last friday...

i figured a k&n air intake and some cams and maybe a port and polish while im in there would squeeze an extra 10-20 hp outta her and make her sound a little more beefy...

we will see :D
