My credo
If it ain't broke, I can't fix it.
Swapping a 99 5.0 Mountaineer into my 2000 Ranger 3.0L 2WD and I encountered this amongst my pressure fuel line and don't have clue what it is. It wasn't present on the Mountaineer and I couldn't swap the pressure line from the Mountaineer either because it had the filter in a different location. Does this have something to do with "Flex Fuel"?

Flex Fuel Composition Sensor. It measures the gasoline/ethanol ratio so the 3.0 FFV PCM can adjust the A/F Ratio.

So this won't have any effect on my fuel supply with the 5.0 :icon_thumby: Thanks.

That won't but the pressure regulator could.

1998~2000 Ranger 3.0L Flex-fuel:
55 PSI +/- 8 PSI

1999~2001 Explorer 4.0L/5.0L:
65 PSI +/- 8 PSI

1998~2000 Ranger (exc. Flex-fuel):
64 PSI +/- 8 PSI

2001~2010 Ranger (all):
64 PSI +/- 8 PSI

So, all 98+ Ranger pumps/regulators EXCEPT the 98~00 FFV's should be fully compatible with the pressure requirements of a stock 99~01 Explorer 5.0L.

If, by chance, you had an FFV regulator that was on the high side of spec, it might also be OK for the 5.0.
Example: a regulator that happened to have a set point of 60 PSI would satisfy the factory specs for both the 55 PSI +/-8 and the 65 PSI +/-8 fuel systems.

The regulator is sold as part of the fuel pump assembly inside the tank.

I actually kept the tank from the Explorer just in case I'd need it, but hoped it wouldn't be a necessity to crack it open. Thanks for the info, I'll probably open it up when I pull the bed off to swap it.

So the regulator is actually on the fuel pump/sending unit assembly?

I'm hoping from what you posted that I really only need to swap out the pressure regulator and not the pump as I had it out today and found that the Explorer pump has a different connector, sock filter, and the hose nipple actually pulled out of the pump. Due to all of these things, I decided to stick with the OE pump.
