I jacked the truck up and changed my tranny fluid yesterday, which by the way is a pain in the ass if you've never done it, but I noticed a small metal tube coming down from the engine compartment and sticking out on the driver's side of the tranny fluid pan. It's not connected to anything at all just kind of hanging there open ended. Any ideas what it is and why it's not connected to anything?

I considered that but i dont think so. It hangs outside of the pan just open to the air. And I'm still getting a good reading from the dipstick too so I dont think it is.

Im thinking it may be the vent tube which is suppose to have a piece of rubber hose from the back of tranny to the top of that tube.

just my 2 cents worth.

The vent tube goes from the top of the trans, up to a bellhousing bolt, then back dowm to the left side of the trans (near the shift linkage).

It is supposed to be open, do not plug it!

If it is loose, you should probably check your bellhousing bolts. It may be that the trans was changed once and they didn't get the tube bolted.

No it's definitely not loose I was just wondering because it's the first time I've noticed it just hanging out in the open like that. Thanks for the info guys.
