What is this plug on the driver side of my 1988 ford ranger 2.3l? when I move the yellow or black wire the truck was idle up and then settle back down.

I was under the impression the spout connector is on the passenger side by the battery area and is just the black plug that doesn't have a looped wire like this one does.

Based on the wire colors. Most likely seems to be engine coolant temperature sensor. Note that it isn't the one that drives the gauge.

Do you have problems with cold starts?

Do you have power steering? If not, it might have been for the power steering pressure switch.
