ive been having a problem lately with my brake lights not wanting to work sometimes(vehicle stops before the lights come on, u have to stop really hard to get them to come on), i was wandering if i adjust this if it would help? also gettin a hissing sound under the dash when im stoped(dont notice it when im slowing down) and it stops when i push the brake harder, wtf does that?

this piece is under the dash on a bracket and a white "rod" extends when the pedal is pushed, have no idea what it is. sorry the pics arent the best. hard to get a good pic

Hmm... If I could see it, I might have a better idea. Ha ha

LOL~ I was thinking a transmorgifyer, but they are usually blue...

I tried to imagining looking up under the dash as I've done so many times, but could not think of what it might be...I guess clearer pics would help, but what pedal are you pushing to see the white rod?

ok basically the big white block is on the brake pedal, and the round threaded plastic piece is going through a seperate bracket with a nut on the back to adjust. at the end of the threaded plastic piece thats close to the white block is a white plastic rod that comes out when the brake is pressed

looks like a brake switch to me. If there is a threaded rod then you may be able to adjust it.

Otherwise I'd just buy a new one.

Yup brakeswitch..

That's what I thought it might be...but they must be different from mine because mine is just a small metal clip with wires coming off it...no white plastic...maybe I can upgrade mine...seems to have a slight delay on it...

the whole thing is threaded, it also has a plug and sensor thingy on the master cyl rod where it meets the brake pedal, but it moves when u push the brake in, so i dont really see anyway that could be the switch...i guess ill try to adjust tomorrow...any ideas on the hissing noises?

Is the vehicle in your sig the vehicle with this problem?

On my 93 ranger, my brakes will make a hiss like a vacuum leak if i step on them when already stopped, so i would assume thats normal. Your brake switch might be worn out if it isnt activated till the pedal has reached full travel distance.

also would a bad brake switch cause the centerconsole brake light warning to come on? it says i have a brakelight out when my headlights are on, but when my brake lights do work i dont have a blown bulb, i pulled them out and both filaments are good
