I have a 1990 Ford Ranger XLT with the 2.3L four. A squirrel got into my engine and chewed some stuff up, i have fixed everything but this part i cannot find in any engine manual i would like to know what it is so i can find a replacement. When the engine is running it does have a vacuum to it as i can air being sucked in.

I think that it's the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid.

That's where the wizard lives.

It's best to not upset him.

Hello and welcome to TRS

EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation.
Its one of the emission control devices that is actually very helpful. Its only used at cruise and puts a little exhaust gas into the cylinder to cool the combustion chamber. There is less NoX produced and no affect on fuel mileage. There might even be some fuel mileage improvement because less oxygen is used so also less gas.

For the life of me I cannot understand people's obsession with deleting EGR systems...

Yeah that seems to be what it is now, problem is i can get the valve but not the little green and red hoses and the electrical connector that the squirrel actually chewed up.

You can just replace the hard plastic lines with standard rubber vacuum line. And the connector itself doesn't look damaged, just carefully take the terminals out and re-solder the wires back on.

Okay, will give that a try.
