What is the smaller inlet next to the main inlet for? It's off of my 302 EFI and bolts to the lower intake.

I was thinkin the same thing...
 
It's not the heater hose connection, it's the bypass hose to the waterpump. And neither are inlets, both are outlets. The whole thing is called the Thermostat housing. T-Stat fits in the recess on the back side.
 
yea and i think its a special molded hose from ford because if you use regular hose it kinks from the tight bend.
 
Just go to the part store and ask for the heater by-pass hose. There are 2 versions that I know of(they are a molded 90), so you may have to get both and see which fits yours. The other end goes to your water pump(upper I think)

On my 351w ranger I purchased a 90degree copper elbow and fitted each end with a short ,straight piece of hose. that way it will never kink or collapse.
