A guess from memory - but it looks like a Pinto. Those have different internal parts, so be sure before you start. (The Ranger engines are stronger)
The casting numbers are the only sure way to know. Number info in brief:
An example would be E57A-6002-HB = E57A (prefix), 3002 (basic part number), -HB (suffix).
The 1st character of the prefix indicates the decade of design;
• C = 1960's
• D = 1970's
• E = 1980's
• F = 1990's
The 2nd character of the indicates the year within the decade. E5 would represent 1985.
The 3rd character of the prefix indicates the Product Line the part was originally designed for, with few exceptions. In this example, the 7 = Ranger. Pinto (76 on) is E
The 4th character indicates the Part Source In this example A= Light Truck Engineering.
The part number E57A-6002-HB would equate to;
E5 = 1985
7 = Ranger
A = Light Truck Engineering
The next group of numbers describe the part.
Front sump on the oil pump pick up... Mustang II or Pinto. Besides the casting numbers, the only major difference from a Ranger to a Mustang / Pinto motor is the cam bearing diameter (larger on the ranger). Other differences are timing cover, water pump and intake / carburetor. However, the base block remains the same.
