My brother has a k30 & k20 truck. The K20 isn't running and he just wants to sell it. It has locking hubs up front and says spicer on it. It has the engine and trans in it with no parts robbed off except the alternator. How much would you think it would be worth? He is wanting to sell it to pay for a engine for the other truck. Do you think it could bring 1500 or is that too much?

Well I guess the two questions you need to get answered before you can figure out how much it is worth are

1) How much does it weigh?

2) What are scrap prices in your area?

A non-running or poorly running vehicle that old is worth scrap value or less.

Just some FFT>>>>

K20/30 are the GMC version of a Chevy C20/30 correct? As Adam says, a non-runnin vehicle won't bring alotta money to the normal person.

1. What would it take other than the missin alternator to get it runnin?

2. Longbed or Shortbed?

Bein a 79' 4x4 which is a solid axle that year, I would think the chassis would bring $500, dependin on the engine & trans (350/400/454 with T350/T400/4 spd stick), and condition of the body & interior. I'd say askin $2000 would be a startin point.

I've given $500 for a roller years back, so it all depends on what the interested party is lookin for...........I sold a roller 90 Mustang 5.0 Coupe with frame connectors, 411 posi, & motorplate for SB for $1000 back in 05.

C10/C20/C30 are 2wd. K10/K20/K30 are 4wd.

A dead horse is worth salvage at best. If it has a good clean solid body and a title I imagine the value will go up some though to the right guy... but $1500-2000 is probably tops for an average one that runs good.

People eat those things up (and for good reason)

Yeah, I didn't figure it was worth much. As to what it needs to be running...it needs an alternator and carb rebuilt. It "ran" about 7 years ago, but had carb issues and was burning oil. To just get it back running somewhat, it would probably just need a few little things. The motor isn't locked up or nothing and turns over by hand. The body is all in nice shape except the paint and a small dent in the passenger door. All the chrome trim, bumper, and other little things are good. I did notice the floor pans have some rust started in them and the passenger side floor pan has a hole rusted through about the size of a quarter. So...1500 might be pushing it on the price, but I thought just the drivetrain parts might be worth that to someone. It also has a 4 speed standard trans...not sure which one, maybe the SM465.

Put it on CL for 800 bucks someone will buy it.

Better then it gettin melted down and turned into a kia

The "parts value" is only relevant after you have dissembled the truck and are selling the parts separately . Plenty of scenarios where a complete non-running truck is worth less than the value of one major component if it were sitting on a bench . ( Thinking of my former C-10 with banged up body & aging engine I sold for somthing like $500 . If I had parted out and saved the rebuildable 350 4bolt , SM465, and 12 bolt rear , I'd be sitting pretty now .)

A non- running ( not rare or exotic ) vehicle , if in very good condition , is maybe worth a cpl hundred $ over scrap value .

Pretty sure he got rid of it 3 years ago...
