what is the best tire?

Without a doubt, Michelin LTX M/S.

Here are some pics of the first set I had on my Ranger, This is what they looked like at 90K miles, as you can see the tread is still above the wear
bars......

well actually i went on tirerack.com, my tire size is 225/70/14, and there is only one all terrian tire availible, it is a Firestone Destination A/T, the revieiws on tirerack are good, but does anyone out there use them, are they any good

and another question, i have the wheels below, is there any way to powder coat them black, or paint them?

Find yourself a set of cheap 15" wheels. You can find 15" RBV five spoke alloy rims from older Bronco II's and Rangers, deer hoof 15" rims from 1st gen Explorer's, etc... No sense wasting time and money cleaning up a set of 14's that are hard to get tires for when you can grab a set of 15's for less money and open up a new world of options. I put a set of the five spoke alloys on my '94 Ranger last week for $50.

Michelins are teh unopposed best riding tire on the market for trucks, however their at's form what i have heard suffer a little. Whatever brand you go with, GO BUY USED TIRES. You will pay 1/4 the cost most of the time and will most likely find a set of 4 with 60-90% tread, the shorter tire life due to being used will more than be made up for by the price you pay. Most tire shops charge less than 30 bux per tire with mounting and balancing.

Yep, I pay around $130 for a set of tires at a shop in Roanoke. Great way to go if you're trying to save a large chunk of money and still get a good set of tires put on.

Used tires are a great way to go! but be careful! check them over real good and look for spots the tread has worn a ton in like particular spots. Some people find out tires are bad (seperated, or ripped beads and such) and try to sell them to suckers. We have had a few really angry people in our shop yelling at us saying we screwed the tires up because they just bought them from a really nice guy that says there was nothing wrong with them.

+1 to all the above. While I love purchasing used tires, it is essential to give them a good looking over before you have them mounted. Problem tires do make it into the mix from time to time.
