What is R8? 4.10 or 4.56

Hi! Over the past few days i've been going cross eyed searching the web about axles. I got a 2008 FX4 Automatic 4.0, axle tag says 4.10 gears, door jamb says R8 which according to most sites i've seen with a code breakdown means 4.56. I've seen a few charts that indicate that R7 is 4.10 and R8 is 4.56? Please someone end my agony, obviously I have 4.10 because it says so on the tag, but why does it say R8 on the door if it is 4.56, as most sources are telling me? Please help a newbie! Thanks alot!

PM me your VIN and I will run it through OASIS and get the as-built data and see what ford has to say about it actually. (I'm a ford tech)

I thought I heard that there were 4.56's in some of the european rangers but not US

ford ranger come with the 4.10 or 3.45 or 3.55 not sure or 3.73 never 4.56

I'm pretty sure a very select few fx4 ford rangers came with 4.56 (canada) correct me if Im wrong. I know the axle code R8 is 4.56 according to the tech library here.

Not a chance. I was a Ford tech at one time and got the parts guy to look it up.

I'm bumping this, cause I'm wondering why the tech library was left to be wrong.
Also wondering the difference between R7 & R8 door codes.
